Wasserspiele Hellbrunn

Wasserspiele (trick fountains) Schloss Hellbrunn – was only a place for entertainment, a place of large festivities, of exuberant spectacles and for displaying the exceptional. In the past just like nowadays.

The Salzburger Wasserspiele...

Your journey also starts through this „wonder chamber“, at the royal table on which Markus Sittikus greeted his guests. Gaze at the mechanical theatre, with over 100 wooden figures, operated only by air and water. Experience the mystical Mirror Grotto (Spiegelgrotte) and the Crown Grotto (Kronengrotte) with their magical game around the wet element. The local landmark of Hellbrunn should not be forgotten – the Germaul, showing its cheeky tongue to each visitor.

The Hellbrunn Castle…

Whether the octagon – a musical chamber with unbelievable acoustics, the Chinese room with the exquisite hand-painted paper carpets, or the magnificent ballroom – the summer residence will ensnare you with its pomp and uniqueness.

Sound of Music…

The original pavilion from “Sound of Music” stands in the Hellbrunn Park since about 10 years. Originally, the gazebo stood in the garden of Leopoldskron Castle, but there it was not accessible for everyone so it was moved without further ado to Hellbrunn. More than 250,000 fans of “Sound of Music” come here every year to re-enact the Julie Andrews world-famous scene “16 going on 17”.

Folklore Museum in the Monatsschlössl…

The Monatsschlössl presents itself with an incomparable panoramic view over the whole park complex of Hellbrunn. But even the castle’s interior has something to offer. Here visitors find an interesting collection of Salzburg folk culture from Carolino Augusteum (e.g. wooden model for the gingerbread manufacture, typical garbs and much more). Open daily from 10am.

The Steintheater…

The first opera ("Orfeo“ of Monteverdi) was performed in the open on German ground in 1617 at this particularly mystical location of the Hellbrunn Park. The theatre, completely carved out of stone – in the middle of the forest – greets with an extraordinary atmosphere. The Steintheater is an absolute must for all romanticists (where can one propose if not undisturbed on a real stage?) or prospective stage stars – simply genial to test one’s prowess in the forest.
